{"id":50115,"date":"2021-08-04T19:38:32","date_gmt":"2021-08-04T19:38:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.moraeslab.com\/biapt\/?p=50115"},"modified":"2021-08-12T17:52:24","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T17:52:24","slug":"mes-emotions-sont-a-fleur-de-peau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.moraeslab.com\/biapt\/mes-emotions-sont-a-fleur-de-peau\/","title":{"rendered":"Mes \u00e9motions sont \u00e0 fleur de peau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Signals of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) can be used to discriminate between discrete categories of emotions.\u00a0 To date, the most successful emotion classification algorithms have been user-dependent (e.g. trained and tested on data from the same user). While user-independent classification systems have been attempted, their accuracy has been much lower.\u00a0 Emotion recognition systems for individuals with minimally communicative ability rely on the ability to build an accurate user-independent system, as these individuals are unable to provide a \u201cground truth\u201d label that is necessary to train a classifier.\u00a0 The success of this endeavour depends on the development of a large database of emotion-related physiological data.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mes \u00e9motions sont \u00e0 fleur de peau is an interactive exhibit at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montrealsciencecentre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Montreal Science Center <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">designed to address this problem.\u00a0 Visitors to the exhibit view a series of emotion-inducing videos while three physiological signals are recorded.\u00a0 At the end of each video, visitors are asked to report the emotion that they are experiencing.\u00a0 During this time, the biomusic software in the exhibit sonifies the visitor\u2019s physiological signals so that they can hear the music their body generates when they experience different emotions.\u00a0 The visitors are then re-presented with the videos, with biomusic replacing the original video soundtrack.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To date, Mes \u00e9motions sont \u00e0 fleur de peau has collected usable data from over 20,000 visitors.\u00a0 The BIAPT lab is currently working on developing an emotion recognition algorithm from this dataset that will eventually be implemented in biomusic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This project was funded by a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mitacs.ca\/en\/programs\/accelerate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mitacs Accelerate <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grant.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Signals of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) can be used to discriminate between discrete categories of emotions.\u00a0 To date, the most successful emotion classification algorithms have been user-dependent (e.g. trained and tested on data from the same user).
